Other OrganizationsThe following descriptions and links recognize other organizations and user groups involved with Canyons of the Ancients National Monument. Anasazi Heritage Center The Anasazi Heritage Center is a museum of the Ancestral Puebloan (or Anasazi) culture and other Native cultures in the Four Corners region. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management, it is the starting point for visits to Canyons of the Ancients National Monument. www.co.blm.gov/ahc Colorado Archaeological Society The Colorado Archaeological Society (CAS) is dedicated to providing information about our member chapters, activities, projects, officers, and volunteer opportunities. www.coloradoarchaeology.org Hisatsinom Chapter The Hisatsinom Chapter is one of eleven chapters of the Colorado Archaeological Society and is located in the southwest corner of Colorado, in Montezuma County. "Hisatsinom" is the Hopi language equivalent of "Anasazi" or "Ancient Ones." www.hisatsinom.org Crow Canyon Archaeological Center The Crow Canyon Archaeological Center's mission is to initiate and conduct archaeological research and public education programs in partnership with Native Americans and institutions with common interests. www.crowcanyon.org Great Old Broads for the Wilderness Great Old Broads for Wilderness is a grassroots organization dedicated to wilderness growth and protection. The Great Old Broads was founded in 1989 in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Wilderness Act. Today our wrinkled ranks have grown to include men and younger women (Broads-in-training), though the majority of our membership continues to be older women committed to protecting wilderness areas. www.greatoldbroads.org Kelly Place Kelly Place is both an outdoor educational center and unique "bed and breakfast " located in the heart of the Four Corners, just 10 miles west of Cortez, Colorado, in red-rock McElmo Canyon. www.kellyplace.com Kokopelli Bike Club A recreational mountain bike group based in Cortez, Colorado. Contact Jimbo Fairly, 970.565.4408. McElmo Canyon Research Institute The McElmo Canyon Research Institute works on partnership grants with the BLM, stabilizing sites and recording rock art. San Juan Citizens Alliance The San Juan Citizens Alliance organizes for the land and people of the San Juan Basin. Their major priorities include protecting wildlife and wildlands, advocating greater corporate and governmental responsibility in development of oil and gas resources, protecting and restoring rivers, and promoting basic civil rights and civil liberties for all residents. www.sanjuancitizens.org San Juan Mountains Association The SJMA was created in 1988 to assist the San Juan National Forest in providing education and interpretation of public lands in southwest Colorado. SJMA has a participating agreement with the San Juan National Forest and the Bureau of Land Management, San Juan Field Office, to develop educational programs, publications and volunteer projects, as well as provide interpretive services. www.sjma.org Seniors Outdoors Seniors Outdoors is an outing and social club providing organized year-round outdoor activities and related educational opportunities. www.seniorsoutdoors.org The Wilderness Society The mission of the Wilderness Society is to deliver to future generations an unspoiled legacy of wild places, with all the precious values they hold: biological diversity, clean air and water, towering forests, rushing rivers, and sage-sweet, silent deserts.
